Every learner has unique needs.
Some learners have profound and ongoing needs and others have short-term or situation-based needs. This calls for flexible and responsive learning environments that can adapt to the changing needs of learners.
For some learners, the most successful learning environment will include instruction and support in a grade-level classroom with same-aged peers, individualized instruction in smaller group settings, a specialized classroom or setting, one-on-one guided practice instruction, or a combination of all the above. When teachers use evidence-based instructional practices and strategies to support student engagement, it can lead to greater achievement and success for all children and students.
Someone who I have followed on twitter and admire their work is Sylvia Duckworth. I have used her sketch note technique in the classroom as well as in my notetaking, Sylvia is an award-winning teacher from Toronto, Canada, with more than 30 years teaching experience in the classroom.
This is one clip I have found online to help address classroom with a diverse set of students. I found myself saying “Hey class” or “OK Everyone” a lot of times in the throughout my practicum. I want to add a funky twist to my introductions, and I would start off by addressing the class it different gender-neutral terms. My favorite turned out to be “hello future leaders of the world.”
